Canton Fair Hotels Guide — Where to Stay Near Pazhou

Where to stay for the Canton Fair. Guide to hotels near the Canton Fair Complex (Pazhou), hotels in Guangzhou city centre with metro access, booking tips, and what to expect during fair season.

Finding good accommodation during the Canton Fair is one of the biggest practical challenges for first-time visitors. Hotels near the Pazhou Exhibition Complex fill up months in advance, and prices during fair season can be three to five times higher than normal rates. Book early, understand the options, and you will have a comfortable base for your sourcing trip.

How early should you book?

For Canton Fair season (April–May for the spring edition, October–November for the autumn edition), it is not unusual for popular hotels to sell out 3–6 months in advance, particularly those within walking distance of the Canton Fair Complex. The very best rooms go even earlier.

As a general rule: book as soon as you know you are attending. If you are reading this guide in January, book now for the April fair. If you are reading in July, book immediately for October.

Prices fluctuate significantly during the fair versus non-fair periods. What costs USD 80/night in a normal week can cost USD 250–400/night during the fair. Budget accordingly.

Hotels on Pazhou Island — walking distance to the fair

A small number of hotels are located directly on or immediately adjacent to Pazhou Island, within walking distance of the Canton Fair Complex entrances. These are the most convenient option but also the most expensive and earliest to sell out.

The Canton Fair Hotel and the Poly World Trade Hotel are among the hotels most directly associated with the complex. Several international chains also have properties within the Pazhou area. These hotels fill up extraordinarily fast — book 4–6 months in advance or you will not find availability.

Staying on the island eliminates the need to navigate Guangzhou traffic in the morning, which during fair season can be significant. Many buyers who stay here breakfast early and walk to their first meeting by 8:30 am.

Hotels on Metro Line 8 — convenient and more affordable

The best value-for-money area for Canton Fair accommodation is along Metro Line 8, which serves the Pazhou and Xingang East stations at the fair. Hotels in the Haizhu and Tianhe districts within a 2–4 station range of the fair offer significantly lower prices while remaining very accessible.

Areas around Guangzhou East Station (served by Metro Line 1 and 3) are popular with international visitors, with a good mix of international chain hotels and local options. From Guangzhou East, travel on Line 1 to Tianhe Coach Station, transfer to Line 8 eastbound to the fair.

Hotels in the Pearl River New Town (Zhujiang Xincheng) area — the modern business district in Tianhe — offer excellent transport links, many dining options, and a more cosmopolitan environment. This area is approximately 3–4 metro stops from the fair.

Serviced apartments — a practical option for longer stays

For buyers attending all three phases of the Canton Fair (three weeks), a serviced apartment in Guangzhou can be significantly more economical than a hotel and offers facilities such as a kitchen, laundry and separate living space.

Serviced apartments are widely available in Guangzhou through platforms like Airbnb, booking.com and local platforms. Areas in Haizhu and Tianhe within metro reach of the fair are popular for longer stays.

Practical tips for hotel stays during Canton Fair

Always book refundable rates where possible. Plans change, visa applications are occasionally delayed, and it is better to have flexibility even if it costs slightly more.

Canton Fair season is also typhoon season (especially in October). Guangzhou can receive heavy rain — comfortable waterproof footwear and a compact umbrella are essential.

Breakfast at hotels near the fair often runs out early during fair season — arrive at the restaurant when it opens or pre-order a packed breakfast if available.

Many exhibitors invite buyers to dinner — the Pazhou and Pearl River area have excellent Cantonese seafood restaurants. Guangzhou is renowned as China's culinary capital and dim sum dining is a highlight of any visit.
